SAP SE revealed a comprehensive set of generative AI capabilities and breakthroughs at the SAP TechEd event in 2023, aimed at allowing developers of all skill levels to supercharge their enterprises in the age of AI.
“Today’s dynamic technology and business landscape necessitates that every developer be an AI developer,” stated Juergen Mueller, Chief technological Officer and member of SAP SE’s Executive Board. “The innovations we’re launching at SAP TechEd, from AI-infused pro-code tools to a one-stop shop to create generative AI extensions and applications on SAP Business Technology Platform, support the developers at the heart of the AI revolution and provide them with resources they need to transform the way businesses run.”
Effective collaboration between professional and citizen developers is critical as organizations seek to gain business value from generative AI. SAP is introducing SAP Build Code solutions, which will streamline collaboration with business professionals who use the low-code SAP Build solutions that will be introduced at SAP TechEd in 2022. SAP Build Code solutions, which are specifically designed for SAP applications and the SAP ecosystem, provide AI-powered productivity aids for developers and are optimized for Java and JavaScript development. SAP Build Code also leverages the power of SAP’s new generative AI copilot Joule – the copilot who genuinely understands business – to enhance productivity even further, including code generation capabilities for data models, application logic, and test script creation.
effective data is the cornerstone of effective AI, and SAP HANA Cloud continues to lead the way in data innovation by incorporating new vector database technologies into its multimodel services at no extra cost. Vector data stores manage unstructured material, such as text, photos, or audio, to offer AI models with long-term memory and context. This makes it simple to locate and recover related objects.
Users can, for example, search for suppliers based on the language in their contracts in order to review payment history and track particular purchases. These strong new vector database features improve interactions between huge language models and mission-critical data in an organization. The innovation positions SAP developers at the forefront of delivering dramatically new levels of data analysis within a secure, private framework that reduces hallucinations by using industry-specific client data.
AI Foundation, a new one-stop shop for SAP BTP developers to construct AI- and generative AI-powered extensions and apps, will improve developers’ influence and efficiency even further. AI Foundation delivers everything developers need to get started building business-ready AI solutions on SAP BTP, including ready-to-use AI services and access to the top big language models, as well as vector database capabilities and AI runtime and lifecycle management.
The rapid speed of technological innovation has increased global demand for competent developers, and SAP is responding by expanding its learning possibilities. SAP today released new role-based certification and free learning resources for back-end developers utilizing the ABAP Cloud development paradigm, as part of a promise to upskill two million professionals by 2025 and to supplement free AI learning content currently available. The SAP Learning site now has two new learning modules covering ABAP development tools on SAP BTP and SAP S/4HANA. They are intended for agile and cloud-compliant business transformation, and they equip developers with the knowledge to create cloud-ready extensions that are consistent with SAP’s clean core philosophy.
SAP has also become a corporate affiliate of the Stanford HAI (Institute for Human-Centered AI). SAP researchers and engineers will collaborate with the Stanford academic community on the interface of generative AI and business, including research faculty and students.
