DAT Launches the Industry’s First AI-Powered Identity Verification Solution to Combat Fraud

DAT Freight & Analytics, in collaboration with Verosint, launched the first purpose-built, AI-powered identity fraud detection and prevention tool to assist prevent unauthorised use of customer login credentials and tackle the growing problem of identity theft in transportation and logistics.

DAT may now utilise AI and machine learning to confirm user identities and investigate problematic accounts thanks to this new technology. DAT network users can now do the following:

  • Verify the identity of the entities with which they are doing business.
  • Ensure the validity of DAT load board postings.
  • Real-time monitoring, detection, and blocking of fraud.
  • Use industry-leading DAT rules, signals, and intelligence to detect and prevent fraud.

DAT’s AI-driven identity-verification solution is powered by Verosint and operates in the background to provide legitimate users with a secure and seamless login experience. It uses DAT’s data, analytics, and generative AI expertise to detect suspected fraudulent behaviour and prevent unauthorised access to DAT One, the industry’s largest freight marketplace and analytics platform.

“Identity-based cyber crime is challenging all businesses,” says Stephen Shoaff, CEO and Co-Founder of Verosint. “Account fraud is a key enabler of these crimes.” We are honoured that DAT picked our technology to monitor all identification transactions in real time for fraud detection and prevention. Our combined knowledge will provide the industry’s best protection against false identity incidents, ushering in a new era.”

In DAT’s multidimensional fraud-prevention programme, which was first revealed earlier this year, the alliance marks a crucial step. The programme consists of:

  • To identify and prevent suspect logins, use predictive fraud detection, identity verification, and multi-factor authentication.
  • An enhanced Network Integrity Unit (NIU) tasked with looking into fraud allegations and keeping DAT as the most reliable freight marketplace.
  • Customer education and training in anti-fraud.
  • cooperation between customers, business partners, regulators, and law enforcement in the battle against fraud.

The truckload freight business, like so many others, has been plagued by rogue actors trying to abuse carriers, brokers, and shippers through different identity theft frauds. DAT reports that account takeovers, credential stuffing, new-account fraud, and synthetic (BOT) accounts account for 56% of the fraud instances it analyses.

Operators of online goods networks must investigate reports of suspicious activity individually, a time-consuming manual operation, in the absence of advanced identity verification to detect and prevent potential fraud at scale. This AI and Machine Language-based breakthrough allows DAT to intervene quickly and selectively, improving its ability to detect and prevent fraud before it occurs.

“Automated identity verification is a game changer,” said Mac Pinkerton, President of North American Surface Transportation at C.H. Robinson. The ability to detect and halt fraudsters automatically in real time is critical to a more secure goods marketplace and demonstrates DAT’s commitment to combatting fraud.”

“Ensuring a safe, secure, and scalable network for our customers is DAT’s top priority,” stated Satish Maripuri, CEO and President of DAT. “Working closely with our customers to innovate on our fraud-prevention programme is already yielding significant results.” The combination of Verosint’s identity, centric platform with DAT’s data and AI capabilities elevates identity verification to a new level – a first in the industry.”
