Manage Team, a new feature that allows account owners to create sub-accounts and delegate access to specific features and services, has recently been added by cPanel, the hosting management platform of choice. This much-anticipated feature was eagerly sought by its user community and is now accessible for free to all cPanel users.
“Team Manager has been our most requested feature,” says Jesse Asklund, cPanel’s Chief Experience Officer. “With this feature, we’re enabling seamless collaboration and administrative task delegation, allowing site owners to give access to associates, developers, and anyone else needing access to a cPanel account without sharing the primary account credentials.”
As more small businesses develop web presences, a secure method of delegating administrative chores within cPanel has emerged.
Manage Team addresses this by allowing licence owners to create sub-accounts with access to certain services such as website development, database management, email administration, and more without requiring users to share credentials. Not only does this reduce support costs and boost security, but searchable audit logs capture each sub-user’s activity, and these accounts can even be scheduled to automatically expire on a specific date.
New Sales Channels for Shared Hosting Providers
Shared hosting providers can now market and sell delegated accounts as part of their solutions, which do not incur cPanel licencing fees, thereby providing significant value. Account owners can create sub-accounts with different team sizes, such as 3-member small teams, 5-member standard teams, and 7-member large teams, and charge varying prices for them.
Furthermore, as team members, this functionality will introduce new users to the cPanel platform, which may generate future demand for their own cPanel accounts.
Control and security are being strengthened.
In terms of security, cPanel has always been at the cutting edge of industry standards. Account owners can require Two-factor Authentication for all users using Manage Team, and the root administrator and/or reseller can limit the amount of sub-user accounts a cPanel account can have.
Users must pick the Manage Team feature from the menu in WHM’s Feature Manager interface (WHM » Home » Packages » Feature Manager) to enable the Manage Team interface for a cPanel account.
cPanel account owners now have complete control over their accounts, allowing them to quickly delegate access to team members and third-party providers while ensuring security.
A much-anticipated feature
The debut of the Manage Team functionality, which was created in direct response to user requests, marks a key milestone for cPanel. The platform now allows users to create user accounts for easier team collaboration, removing security risks associated with exchanging passwords.
