Sona Iliffe-Moon has been appointed as Chief Communications Officer, Yahoo said today. With over 20 years of experience, Iliffe-Moon has led corporate, crisis, and consumer communications for well-known companies like Facebook, Instagram, Nestle, Toyota, and most recently, Lyft. The appointment of Iliffe-Moon comes after the appointments of a number of notable figures, such as Ryan Spoon as Yahoo Sports President and Tressie Lieberman as Chief Marketing Officer.

Jim Lanzone, CEO of Yahoo, stated, “Sona has a proven track record in elevating influential brands, and we look forward to welcoming her to Yahoo at a pivotal inflection point in the company’s history.” “Sona will play a crucial role in forming our narrative and bringing it to the world as Yahoo forges ahead and our story unfolds.”

Iliffe-Moon will lead corporate, consumer, and internal communications as well as all facets of Yahoo’s global communications strategy, directly answering to Lanzone. As the head of end-to-end communications for partners, customers, and staff, she will drive innovation throughout Yahoo’s product line and showcase the company’s progress. Iliffe-Moon will collaborate closely with marketing to present integrated narratives that bridge the gap between social and earned media.

“Yahoo played a significant role in my introduction to the internet, and it continues to be a highly dependable resource with the potential to significantly impact people’s lives,” said Iliffe-Moon. “Jim and the rest of the executive team, I’m excited to help tell the story of what’s next.”

Iliffe-Moon had a variety of industry experience prior to joining Lyft. Prior to this, she oversaw communications for Facebook and Instagram, where she launched several important products and initiatives like Facebook Dating, Facebook Marketplace, Instagram Stories, IGTV, and Communities Summit, among many others. She spent almost nine years overseeing corporate and marketing communications at Toyota in addition to managing communications for Nestlé’s beverage and foreign divisions.
